RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK INVOLVEMENT

Shelridge is a name synonymous with the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed in Australia. We breed for quality not quantity. Ridgebacks have been part of our family since 1966. We are proud to have bred beautiful Rhodesian Ridgebacks which have enhanced the lives of their owners/families. We welcome enquiries pertaining to our dogs, Rhodesian Ridgebacks in general and planned puppies.  We are members of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of South Australia Inc. 

Beginings

Shelridge Kennels was founded by Dawn and her mother Sylvia Corker. The Corker family purchased their first Rhodesian Ridgeback in the late sixties upon returning to England from West Africa . It was during their stay in West Africa that they first encountered the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed.

Shelridge" is a small select kennel proud of the dogs we have owned or bred. Our record speaks for its self. Shelridge ridgebacks have been prized by their owners for not only their show ring feats but also as loving family companions. We have always strived to exhibit top quality Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Showcasing dogs that we feel typifies handsome upstanding Rhodesian Ridgeback type. Our Ridgebacks have had great success in the show ring with awards too numerous to list here. Progeny of Shelridge Rhodesian Ridgebacks have also enjoyed show ring acclaim and we aim to keep our standards high in future breeding programs

NEWFOUNDLAND BREED INVOLVEMENT

Having admired the Newfoundland breed for many years we decided to incorporate the breed into our kennels. We purchased our first Newfoundland from Krystalcove Kennels (Victoria) and todate own three Newfoundland dogs. Although new to this breed we have enjoyed success in the showring with our Newfs and hope to build future generations from our current dogs.

LOCATION

We moved in Aug 09 to a rural property "Pinegrove" which is situated  80 kms (an hour's drive) north-west of Goulburn, or one and a half hour's drive from Canberra. The property located in Crooked Corner,  sits astride the Great Dividing Range in the southern tablelands of New South Wales.   Dawn and her husband (Owen) and son (Bryce) live together with their Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Newfoundlands. We also share our land with a plethora of Australian wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wombats and many native birds including parakeets and kookaburras etc. The shire experiences the four seasons and often has snow during the colder months. It is a very scenic and productive region.

 

 Dawn is actively involved with aspects pertaining to judging, exhibiting and breeding of dogs. Qualified to judge at championship show level  the Hound group (4) and the Non Sporting group (7). Dawn has judged extensively throughout Australia at champ group level. At breed speciality level Dawn has judged Rhodesian Ridgeback Champ Shows in Australia and New Zealand and breed speciality champ shows in Australia for Chow Chows and Beagles.

 Dawn's is currently the President of the "National Rhodesian Ridgeback Council of Australia" and the "Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of South Australia Inc."  Over the years she has served in various position with a number of Breed and All breed clubs
